How do you draw a truck that is in the middle of nowhere? We didn’t have that. We had so much freedom to make the story come alive, but because of the limitations of our machines, we couldn’t even use some of the tricks that are so common in comics. So we were never able to do some of the stuff that we wanted to do. So that’s actually the only reason why we didn’t try it, which was just like, “We can’t do it. We were the bad guy to this guy, and we’ve only got one story left, and we gotta deal with that?”

I think comics have a great way of doing it, too, because, you know, you have this great story, and when you’re done, you think, “Oh, this is so fun.” Then you find out that there are more problems! Sometimes when you’re doing something, you think, “Oh my god, this is so funny!” The next day, somebody will be looking at you like, “What’s going on here?” Well, I don’t know why, but you don’t have that, and I guess I understand why. I think we just don’t want to make it so that you’re disappointed when you do your comic, and then you go, “Oh yeah, that was such a bad time!” I don’t know. Just saying, “Let’s find a way to deal with that. Not that you’ve got something else coming up, but let’s make it a little bit easier on yourself, because you might have more in you to do. You might have more stories or stuff to show your friends.”

One of the main things I always say to writers is just, I want you to be the voice of your experience, not just a mouthpiece for the artist or the editor, or whoever is there making the decision. Just be, like, “What’s cool about the experience of being able to do it, and what’s not cool about not being able to do it?” The idea of working with someone who doesn’t draw a lot, or not like you. All these things need to be looked at very carefully so you’re not just being sold a story; you’re also selling it as a story.
