How do you draw hair?

How do you draw hair?

Is there a special process for that?

J.K. Rowling: I know this is a question I’ve always been asked, but I have to actually tell you that I don’t know. My hair is like nothing I’ve ever seen before, in the past, in any media. It may be quite different from how I am wearing it, but it is not unusual to see me with a certain style that I don’t get very often these days. It has been a bit of a trend lately to have very short hair. That’s not unusual, and I do enjoy that.

Q: So you’re not always doing it that way?

J.K. Rowling: I do think I’ve got a certain style!

Q: You’re quite comfortable wearing it this way?

J.K. Rowling: Yes!

Q: Do you have many hairstyles in general?

J.K. Rowling: I’m generally careful with the way I am styled and I like to wear things that I find fashionable, and there are a few that I’m not even particularly partial to. And that’s not just any hair. I like it when I feel like I have a certain colour in my hair, but I think I’m usually very fond of anything else.

Q: It’s a nice compliment, is it not?

J.K. Rowling: No! I think there’s a fine line between liking it and just going all in. I mean, I think I like anything to do with hair, but my head is a little different. If I’m going to try and make a certain kind of style look good, I have to think very carefully, and that’s the hardest part!

Q: You seem quite reserved around other people, that’s for sure. Do you feel anything from that?

J.K. Rowling: I don’t know about people being reserved to me; I think people respect you more when you’re relaxed and confident about who you are.

Q: Is there something about women that irritates you so much?

J.K. Rowling: For an adult, a large part of the trouble is, you’re very aware of yourself, and I’m very aware of myself as Hermione Granger, but I don’t actually hate other people. I’m aware of them in a way that is very frightening, actually.

Q: Do you have any secret hair rituals?
