As a general rule it’s best to start with the Basic Editor if you want to learn how to write, edit and create videos. However, if you want to learn to edit on film you can also start with the Intermediate Editor which offers different levels of editing, some of which require more editing skills than others
Note: The Intermediate Edition offers a more advanced and in many ways better editing experience.
You can get an extended version of this course for free in exchange for an email address at the end of this post.
Learn how to create a podcast:
Note: You can watch this video tutorial here.
You also get access to a number of extra tools which I believe are essential to creating a successful podcast.
I like to use Audacity to record voiceovers and the video is recorded with an iPhone Pro using the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. I’m also using a Sony RX100.
I also have a pair of the latest iPad Pro’s using the iPad Air 2 which were then also recorded through the same camera on each.
If you’re looking for a cheaper option, a Google Nexus 7 is a decent choice although as this is my first tablet I tend to go for the iPhone 7 if I want to create a podcast.
Learning: The Basic Editor in the Intermediate Edition
This is the editor of choice for most people when it comes to audio editing. It really is the most powerful and versatile audio editor you can buy. It allows you to cut, adjust (mix) loops, add effects and convert audio files for audio and video and I have written a guide on how to use it here.
Note: Audacity is also very versatile when it comes to video editing and is very useful when it comes to recording your voiceovers.
The Basic Edition features two editors – one basic and one advanced, you can choose between the two based on the type of video you create. The Basic Edition offers higher level editing such as sound mixing, adjusting loops and creating your video, you can find the basic version here.
This will definitely give you the skills needed to do basic video or audio editing but if you want to learn and create a full video edit then the Intermediate Edition is worth investing in.
The Intermediate Edition offers higher level editing, such as audio mixing, changing and adding effects and changing your videos in post.
You can access it here and the advanced version here
