It’s now official: This is a joke.

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is calling the Prime Minister’s announcement Monday that all businesses will pay the same tax as individuals a “joke”.

“This is a joke. This is ridiculous,” CFIB president Gordon Nixon said. “We’ve all heard of the federal government taking out the cheques, and that you have no idea what business you’re in.”

“The Prime Minister knows what he’s doing is a joke.”

“He’s playing with the hopes and dreams of a whole bunch of people.”

Nixon said he would be calling a press conference at 8 a.m. ET Wednesday to discuss the issue with Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

The Prime Minister’s office said Monday that all businesses will have to pay the same $10 tax rate for 2015 in addition to any other taxes they have charged.

The news came as part of Mr. Harper’s announcement to introduce a $1-billion deficit for 2015.

Nixon also questioned why Mr. Harper would introduce a $1-billion deficit without making any other changes to the system.
