How can I sell my wood products? Are there any requirements?
There are no requirements in regard to selling wood products other than the requirement in Title 7 of the Code of Federal Regulations that a commercial wood product seller must be licensed. We currently have no set requirements in regard to advertising and sales in any form other than the advertising requirement.
I am a commercial wood product seller. I need to sell wood, but it doesn’t seem to be legal to sell wood in the US at this time. What can I do?
The US Department of the Treasury requires that all wood products (be they manufactured wood, reclaimed wood or sawed wood, recycled or other manufactured products) be registered and regulated by federal law. This includes wood sold through retail wood retailers. Title 12, Section 3, requires that all wood sold through a commercial wood distributor must be registered. In order to register a wood product or to register a wood product as “eligible” for Title 12, Section 3, a distributor must first obtain a commercial wood distributor license. This application includes a fee, but is nonrefundable.
When do I need to register a wood product?
To register a wood product with the EPA, you must apply online or go to a licensed federal distributor. You must complete the application and pay the license fee.
What are the requirements for Title 12, Section 3?
The title of the Title 12, Section 3 (formerly Title 3) requirements is now Title 12, Section 8. This title requires all wood or wood products sold in the United States to be properly registered as “eligible wood products” of the manufacturer of each eligible wood product. This requires wood sold through a consumer wood product retailer to be registered. In order for a wood product to be registered, it will need to be registered by the federal distributor on Form 6F. Also, to be registered, a wood product must not have been produced elsewhere. A wood product must not have been altered, damaged or contaminated since it was made.
How does it apply to sales through retail wood retailers?
In accordance with Title 12, Section 8, the title of the Title 12, Section 3 requirements is now Title 12, Section 8. This title requires wood sold through wood retailers to be registered. For a consumer wood product retailer to register, the retailer must:
Pay the fee for making a registration;
Register the wood products the retailer sells;
Create a catalog for wood products sold to retail customers
