What is a good first woodworking project? – Most Profitable Woodworking

The first thing I do is read every single tutorial I receive from the DIY community (and from YouTube and Instagram). These things are the best. They’re the best in everything from how to select supplies, tools, and how to assemble your project, to how to do the woodworking. They’re the best in keeping up with new trends, and in knowing when to go back and change everything.

Do you know how many times I’ve read about how to make a router table that is perfect for a young person?

I can’t imagine how many hours I’ve spent rereading articles about how to make two-by-fours. They’re good, and the instructions are right! You could call them what you like, but they’re what you have to make the best of them. But, what about learning them? What about the tools?

To me, the best way to learn a new craft is through watching videos. Watch it online, or just ask someone about making a router table. There’s even a way to do it with videos on YouTube. Check them out!

And what about building your first router table? A pretty damn good way to learn?

My first router table took months, and I didn’t have a clue what I was doing. Now I know what one looks like, and here’s how to make one in under an hour, even when I have to sleep in my bed.

Start by making sure they’re square.

Use the table itself to make your router table, too. Use a miter saw if you need more surface area, or a hand saw if you’re lazy or don’t want to do any sawing. And if you can, use a pair of pliers to remove those sharp edges and get that nice flat surface.

Cut your first table to size.

Cut the table to size first, then drill holes in the top and bottom. If your wood is very thin, these will be much easier to fit into. I like to get the edges of the table as level as possible, and this is one step I can’t recommend very highly.

Make sure holes are lined up on the bottom and top
